Cross Country 2020

Hello, 

Due to the Covid-19 crisis and the current contact restrictions implemented by the KHSAA and OCBE, we will be conducting sign-ups for cross country electronically. As soon as the contact restrictions are eased to the appropriate point, we will have a face-to-face meeting with the parents to get all needed documentations, releases, and other logistics taken care of. Until then, all group communications will be conducted via Remind, which will be explained later in this letter. Any individual issues, concerns, or questions can be directed to my school email account at kent.maikranz@ohio.kyschools.us and I will respond as soon as I can. I generally check my email periodically throughout the day so I should respond either the same or next day, depending on what time you email me. 

To sign up for the 2020 OCHS cross country team (tryouts not required), you will need to email me the following:

Please use my school email kent.maikranz@ohio.kyschools.us and do this as soon as possible so I can begin planning our practice sessions. I will need to know how many athletes to expect so I can plan accordingly in order to comply with the current social distancing guidelines. If we do not comply with the guidelines, we may lose our privilege to gather and participate.

The official date for the beginning of the 2020 KHSAA XC season is July 15 and no formal/official practices can be conducted prior to that date. However, you can be beginning to condition on your own and start building your endurance. We are planning on beginning onsite practice July 20. We will be providing more details through Remind as the date gets closer and we are updated on the revised guidelines. We have not been informed as to what or how competitions will be arranged/conducted or any limitation that may be in place. This is an ever-changing situation and as new details are released, we will pass them along. We will always error on the side of caution when it comes to the safety and well-being of your kids. If it is too risky, we will not do it.

ALL ATHLETES MUST HAVE A CURRENT KHSAA SPORTS PHYSICAL TO ATTEND AND PARTICIPATE IN ANY AND ALL ACTIVITY. We will need a copy of the physical. If there is a current physical on file with the school, I can get a copy from the Athletic Director. There will be free sports physicals given here at the high school on Monday July 13 and Tuesday July 14. The time slot for XC is between 2:00 and 3:00 on the Tuesday date. I have attached a schedule of the various times that physicals will be offered. The link is on the Home Page; click on the + sign beside "Cross Country 2020." You do not have to get your physical here, but if you do it will automatically be on file with the school. 

We will be sending the updated/current guidelines for procedures for practices, drop-offs and pick-ups, and screening criteria as we get closer to the start date. We will try to have them posted on this site as well as send them through Remind. We will send a Remind when they are posted.

Parents, in order to be kept updated and informed of any and all things XC related, you will need to sign up for the XC Remind portal. Do this by texting @par20xc to 81010 to register. When you receive the notification that you have been added to the group, text your name and your child's name. This will be the only method of group communication until further notice. I will respond to emails on individual issues and questions, but mass emails will not be utilized for conveying information. We will NOT be using Remind for sign-ups; use the email address above for signing up.

Athletes, we will be communicating a lot of information to you as well. You will need to sign up for the athletes' Remind portal. Do this by texting @ath20xc to 81010 to register. When you receive the notification that you have been added to the group, text us your name. Do this AFTER you are signed up through my email. We will use Remind for practices dates and times, schedule changes, and all other information. We will NOT be using Remind for sign-ups; use the email address above for signing up.
